India
The Republic of India joined the Commonwealth during
1947 on attaining independence and have been to twelve
Games, including Manchester, since attending their
first Games in 1934. 
The National Olympic Committee of India was formed
and recognised during 1927 and is responsible for
organising India's participation in the Commonwealth
Games.
India underpinned its status as an emergng power
in world sport with an outstanding 69 medal haul in
Manchester in 2002 to take their overall medal tally
to 222 achieved in eleven Games and across nine sports
disciplines.
Traditionally, India have won their medals in boxing,
badminton, wrestling and weightlifting, however this
list has expanded to include shooting, athletics,
hockey, judo and table tennis.
